FBISD Billion Dollar Bond

How much money would you believe to help replace, rebuild, and repair 82 campuses? According to Fort Bend ISD, $1.26 billion has been called for by the Board of Trustees to help develop and improve campuses in Fort Bend ISD. For some people, this bond may seem to be too much that is being asked for by the district, considering how this bond will affect property taxes. However, keep in mind Fort Bend ISD has been without a bond for five years, and if approved, these campuses will no longer be labeled as being in critical condition and help improve student and staff work and learning environment. According to Fort Bend ISD, there are three propositions: A, B, and C, which break down where the money goes and for what. One of the primary focuses of Proposition A is the rebuilding of Briargate Elementary, Clements High School, and Mission Bend Elementary; this proposal would cost the district $1,180,830,000. In Proposition B, the main focus is improving teacher and student devices which would cost the district $52,470,000. Finally, in Proposition C, $22,900,000 would go towards another natatorium in the southeast area since Fort Bend only has one natatorium. At the same time, the rest will go to each campus in the district to help with repairs and renovations. Though all of these things help improve our student’s education in some way, the effects of this bond will raise property taxes by $2.50 per month on homes that average $300,000. However, homeowners who are 65 and over or disabled who apply for and receive an exemption will not have an increase in the dollar amount. Considering all of this, is this bond worth the property tax increase? Early voting for or against the bond has now occurred and will end on May 2. Election day will be May 6, 2023.
